    Tips for Maintaining Your HVAC

    Last updated 3 days ago

As homeowners across the country are abundantly aware, the heat of summer brings higher cooling costs. However, much of the energy consumed for cooling your home actually ends up going to waste due to inefficiency and poor maintenance. Maintaining your HVAC can help you cool your home more efficiently and save money. Here are some tips for maintaining your HVAC:

    Replace Your Filter

While most HVAC maintenance jobs require the help of a professional technician, replacing your air conditioner’s filter is an easy job that you can do on your own. A clean filter can make a huge difference when it comes to efficiency. When you fail to replace your filter regularly, it can become clogged with particulate matter like dust, pollen, and mold. As a result, your HVAC system’s airflow becomes compromised, leading to decreased efficiency.

    Hire a Professional

The best thing you can do for your HVAC system, regardless of the season, is to hire a professional HVAC technician to inspect and repair your unit. A professional HVAC technician has the training and expertise necessary to spot potential issues and make the necessary repairs before they become too serious. With regular professional maintenance, you can ensure that your HVAC system is operating as efficiently as possible. You can also prolong the life of your HVAC system, which means you won’t have to prematurely spend thousands of dollars on a new unit. If your system is more than 10 years old, however, you should consider replacing it with a newer, Energy Star-rated model.

Don’t let high cooling costs ruin your summer. By changing your filter regularly and having a professional HVAC technician inspect your unit, you can help improve your air conditioner’s efficiency and prolong its life. SEER Rating: What Is It and How Should It Impact My Air Conditioner Purchase?

    Last updated 11 days ago

When shopping for a new air conditioning unit, it is important to do your research before you make the investment. The efficiency and performance of an air conditioning system is determined by its SEER, or Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. The following article offers a look at the SEER rating and how it should help determine your air conditioner purchase:

    How SEER Is Calculated

An air conditioner’s SEER Rating is calculated by comparing the amount of cool air it generates per unit of energy it consumes. A higher SEER rating means that a unit is more efficient. When you install an energy-efficient air conditioner in your home, you will reduce your monthly energy bills and conserve energy.

    SEER Rating Guidelines

Since January 2006, the U.S. government has required all air conditioning units sold to have a SEER rating of 13 or higher. This rating provides 30% more efficiency than the previous minimum SEER rating, which was 10. Systems that were installed before 2006 often feature a SEER rating of 10 or lower. New air conditioning units have SEER ratings of SEER-16, SEER-18, and even up to SEER-23.

    Saving Money with SEER

Upgrading to a higher SEER rated air conditioner will conserve energy and save you money. The higher the unit’s SEER rating, the more money you will save over time. When you choose a SEER-16 rated air conditioner, you can save over $2,000 dollars in operating costs over the lifetime of the system. Additionally, you will receive a federal tax credit that is 10% of the unit’s cost when you install an ENERGY STAR rated air conditioning unit.
